Detailed review about the specs and features
So finally after the much hype and wait Motorola
finally released the Moto Razr today. They have re-invented the good old Moto
Razr with implementing the latest smartphone technology. It is the first ever
flip smartphone unlike Samsung fold that open like a book. Razr just do what
the previous version did, flip.
Display
So what’s the hot thing in it? It has dual screens
with the main screen works just same as the smartphones do with 6.2” 2142 x
876 display and the secondary screen
that is when the phone is folded that has a 2.7” 800 x 600 display for
secondary tasks like notifications, playing music, Google Assistant and other
similar tasks.
Google Assistant at the folded display |
The technology is such that it has been designed in a
way that there is no gap in between the hinges and the notifications from the
2.7” screen gets transferred to the primary screen when the phone is unfolded
and the primary screen doesn’t get affected when the phone is folded.
The 6.2” display also has the camera and the earpiece
at the Notch provided.
Dimensions - 172mm × 72mm × 14mm |
Camera
It has a 16MP primary camera and 5MP secondary camera
for selfies.
Motorola says the best thing about razr is the camera
app with AI that automatically does the things for us. Like clicking pictures
when you smile for selfies using smile capture AI so you won’t have to click
the button on the phone.
2nd one is Shot Optimization AI, that
suggests you what settings you should enable so that you get the best perfect
shot.
3rd is Smart composition - when you click a
picture it generates a second image based on the guidelines of the professional
photographers, so as to guide you with the perfect photography.
Other camera features –
Cinematograph mode for shooting videos where you can
freeze certain things in the video and keep others moving.
Spot color mode
– whole picture is Black & white except a certain part you want to keep in
color.
Automatically enhances the pictures clicked in the
dark mode and various artistic effects for the portrait mode pictures that you
usually find in the photo editing apps.
Power and performance
Razr has been equipped with a mid-range SoC – “Snapdragon
710” Octa core processor with 2 high performance cores at 2.2 Ghz and 6 low
power cores for the rest of the tasks at 1.7 Ghz. Though other smartphones are
making phones with flagship SoC’s - SD855 and SD855+ and the
Samsung Galaxy Fold too is SD855 but it is priced at $2000 and Razr is priced
at $1500.
Equipped with Stock Android for a great experience
with Android 9 Pie and not the latest Android 10.
Storage:
Base model has 6 GB of Ram and 128 GB of storage.
Battery:
It has 2510 mAh battery is split into two sections one
each at both the portions of the phone, upper and lower.
And to charge it Razr has been provided with
Motorola’s own 15W TurboPower charger that will charge the whole battery within
a few minutes.
Charger is USB-Type C and no 3.5mm audio jack for
earbuds, USB Type-C for the same.
Google Lens:
Convert the texts from images like newspapers, books,
menus, labels etc. Just copy and paste the text and save time typing the
paragraphs.
What is special in this foldable phone?
The special thing is the display. The display remains
crease free when you unfold it. Yes, it doesn’t get sandwiched between the two
flaps when you fold it. Just makes a curve instead of a permanent crease like
you bend a paper with two ends and a curve is made unless you press it to make
a crease. Just like the image below:
Unlike Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X, where
the stress caused to the pixels due to bending and the display dies or gets
faded around it. So Razr is designed in a way to protect the display from all
this stress and dying.
Secondly, the hinges placement is the master work done
here to make the display curve instead of bending. The hinges are not behind
the display, they are to the left and right side of the displays and this is
helping it to fold and unfold easily without stressing it and damaging it.
Position of display when Razr is folded it curves but never bends to form a crease |
What is the Motive/Goal behind this re-invention?
Motorola Razr Primary display when Unfolded |
Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X are the foldable smartphone that are transformed into a tablet when unfolded. That’s their goal.
Moto Razr however does not become a tablet when
unfolded rather it becomes a normal smartphone when unfolded. So the motive is
to make it compact so that it can easily fit in your pocket and palm.
Goal is to make this smartphone turn into half its
size. A compact smartphone.
A surprise for the Moto Razr fans
If you have used the old Moto Razr and want to live
those memories again, then you can do that with the new Avatar of Razr. It has
been equipped with the Retro Razr mode option that turns your phone into the
old Moto Razr and you can use it like you used that for phone calls and
messaging with small screen at the above panel display and the touch keypads at
the bottom display.

This smartphone selling the foldable technology in Rs 1 Lac with mid-range SoC SD710 and not the Latest SD855 and no android 10 that might get updated and camera only 16MP with the phones having 48MP and more than 3 camera phones are available. Maybe the technology costed them so high that to reduce the cost they had to choose mid-range specs?
